Week 14 Famous Last Words

Well this week has certainly been an interesting one. Basically it is the end of the semester and that means it is crunch time. I definitely think that my writing for this class has gotten a whole lot better these last two weeks! I wish that more people in the class would read my Unknown Soldier storytelling though. I have to say that it is by far my best writing ever! I just wish that I wrote like that more often. Maybe I could expand on it and turn it into a book, just for me of course. I am going to miss this class, without a doubt. I like being able to write creatively and think in a way that I probably normally would not. Maybe I will just start a new blog and do some of the readings from the mythology and folklore untextbook and then do writing over it just for fun. When I was in that class last semester it was very difficult just picking one reading unit, and there were so many different stories and storytelling’s that you could do! So I might just do that in my spare time, I mean, why not?

Anyway, this week has certainly been interesting. I have a job interview in Dallas on Friday that I am very excited about. Hopefully it goes well and the job is a job that I actually want. I think it is safe to say that I have had a plethora of interviews, most of which have ended in them rejecting me or me being over qualified for the job. Seriously, one company wanted me to go door-to-door from 6-9pm and then work Saturdays as well. No thank you!

My other classes have been pretty stressful to say the least. Luckily there is not too much left to do, so I should be finished with everything by next week!

Week 13 Famous Last Words

I have always had a certain philosophy about group projects, but this semester confirms how absolutely horrible they are. In one of my classes I have to do a major group project and presentation that basically makes up my entire grade, and my partner is absolutely useless. Here I am doing the bulk of the work and research and whenever I ask her a question the answer is always, “I don’t know.” It is so frustrating. So my goal for this week is to get everything done early in this class so that I can focus on all of my studies for that one. Here is hoping I can get it done.

This weekend was actually pretty exciting. I was on Sooner Scandals Executive Committee and this weekend was our show! I am proud to say that the act I was Liaison for made third place! It was an amazing time. I love being part of Sooner Scandals Exec because it allows be to see everything that is happening behind the scenes. I also get to know some fun, new, and exciting people. Being a senior definitely made the whole experience more special as well. Although, I was absolutely exhausted in the end and just passed out as soon as I got home at the end of the night.

In other news, we only have two weeks left of school before final exams and graduation. Needless to say, I am beginning to freak out a bunch. I just feel as though I have nothing done and that I am procrastinating everything so incredibly much. It just feels like there is not enough time in the day to sleep and eat and get all of my work done. I can definitely say that senior-itis is definitely kicking in. I just want to do nothing for three days. Personally, I would very much like to just sit on a beach for a week, that would be the dream.

Week 12 Famous Last Words

For this week I feel pretty damn ambivalent. It is almost as if I am a world wind, or tornado, of emotions. Basically it went from happy, to being angry with my capstone professor and class, to happy again when my mom came to visit, to tragically sad. Definitely not one of my better weeks. Last night my boyfriend and I decided to break up because he is relocating across the country after graduation in May. Needless to say I have been a complete and total wreck for the better part of a day. Luckily for me, I have enough schoolwork and organization events this week that I will be plenty busy and have enough distractions to keep my mind occupied. That’s a positive, right?

Anyway, it was good having my mom in town this week. Since I am on Campus Activities Council Sooner Scandals Exec again this year I don’t really get to have a Mom’s Weekend because I am too busy with my involvement with that, so my mom and I celebrate Mom’s Weekend the week before! It kind of makes it more special this way because things are a little less crazy and it is almost as if there is more stuff to do. Since she arrived in the evening on Thursday, we decided we would just hang out for the evening and rest. Friday was awesome! We drove up to Oklahoma City and went and saw the Murrah Federal Building Museum and Memorial (aka, the Oklahoma City bombing.) It was truly breath taking. The rest of the day went really well. We saw an old car parade, went to go have an early dinner and drinks at a rooftop bar, and then we went to the NCAA Men’s Gymnastic national championship where we got to see OU take first!!! It was crazy! It was pretty much a rollercoaster of a weekend to say the least.

Week 11 Famous Last Words

I would be understating it if I were to say that this week has been hectic. The business and stress have been absolutely insane. This week I actually had to drive all the way down to Dallas, Texas right after one of my classes so that I could go to a job interview the next morning. Then after the interview I had to quickly change so that I could drive all the way back up here to Norman. I basically drove to Dallas and back in about twenty-four hours!!! How crazy is that? And because of all this craziness of classes and projects and presentations and job interviews, my body has literally been running on empty so at this point I am just crashing. I literally feel asleep for about five minutes while I was typing this! I just feel as though I need a break from things. I have been trying to get ahead of everything, but some how that has backfired as well. I honestly think that I just need an entire day to sleep and then maybe my body will restart itself, kind of like a reboot button.

Anyway, Easter was pretty nice yesterday. On Saturday one of my closest girl friends and I went on an Easter egg hunt around our apartment complex. I am pretty sure the entire thing was rigged and the majority of the residents cheated. I got bored and at one point found a bunch of Cards Against Humanity cards scattered all around the back of the complex. It was practically an entire box! So she and I decided to pick them up and pair them together and leave them on the little clips outside of peoples front doors. It was really funny and a really nice way to spend some time with a good friend.

Week 10 Famous Last Words

This week was certainly a crazy week and an even crazier weekend. Not only did I have a lot of assignments I had to do this week, but also then there was that tornado. I actually ended up staying over at my friend’s house because I did not feel safe at my apartment complex. I feel as though there should be a policy that all apartment complexes should have to include instructions on what to do and locations to go incase of a tornado.

This weekend I actually had to fly to New Orleans, Louisiana because my cousin Sarah was getting married!!! I always love weddings, especially ones in the family, because they bring everyone together to celebrate something that brings all of us joy. Since hurricane Katrina, my family has not been able to get together with each other as often as we used to, and it is even more difficult for me. Every year my mom’s first cousin, Robby, throws a huge crawfish boil at his house for the entire family. Unfortunately for me the date of the crawfish boil always falls on the weekend before final exams, so of course there is not way I am going to be able to fly all the way to New Orleans and then all the way back to Norman just to spend one day with them family and then take all of my exams and make good grades.

Anyway, the wedding was amazing! She had her wedding outside at this huge plantation, which had actually been a real working plantation at one point in time. The alter was located underneath this gigantic tree that was covered in Spanish Moss and it was just beautiful. I was not too hot, but it was not too cold either, and the ceremony was around 6 so it was just beautiful. It was a perfect wedding and was just beautiful. The picture below is actually a picture of me and my cousin Aaron at the wedding. You can see a tree with Spanish Moss on it behind us.

Week 9 Famous Last Words

This week has been an interesting one, that’s for sure. Emotions have been high, stress was at an all time max, and everyone has just been counting down the days until they get an entire week off of school for spring break! Between the racism scandal and midterms, this has not been the best week here at the University of Oklahoma.

It is almost funny how one horribly racist video can, in an instant, tear people apart and bring people together. No one was denying that it was bad, because it was absolutely atrocious, but it did cause some controversy all over the country. I do not want to dwell on the issue, especially since I have already done a lot of writing about it in my free time, but I do want to say that it is sad that it happened and my heart breaks knowing that I living in a country where racism is still and issue.

Now, on to more happy topics! This week I finished watching Criminal Minds. I am still so sad that it is over! I really think that should be my job. How awesome would it be to study serial killers and psychopaths all day? If you are like me and you have a dark and twisted side of you, I highly recommend you watch this show! It is amazing! And the main characters are incredible. It is almost impossible not to fall in love with them.

Since I finished my show, I of course had to find a new one to replace it! How else am I supposed to wake up in the morning? The sound of silence is not getting anyone up out of bed at seven in the morning! I decided that my new show would be House of Cards. I had already seen the first season and the first episode of the second, so now I just have to go on from there.

Week 8 Famous Last Words

Have you heard of vine? Well I am addicted to it. Basically it is an app that consists of six-second videos, and it is awesome! People all over the world can post videos of them doing just about anything. I do not post videos of myself (although I did post one of it snowing the other day with the song Mr. Sandman playing in the background), but I enjoy watching the videos that others post. I actually get quite a bit of my music from there. I really like finding new artists and there are so many aspiring musicians on there, and so many of them are incredibly talented. If I could, my job would consist of me listening to music all day and deciding what musician or band would be the next big thing. Music is so inspired. I mean could you imagine a movie without music? It would suck! There are so many songs and musicians out there that very few people have heard of that are just amazing! Right now I have been listening to Amy Stroup. I should really just start a blog about this stuff. I just really liked underrated music. High Highs are probably one of my favorite bands ever.

Let us discuss the weather. Well, it has definitely been one of the weirder seasons here in Oklahoma. I swear the weather here is bipolar! “Oh, it’s supposed to be spring? Naw, I don’t think so!” Then boom!!! Snow! “Oh, it’s freezing cold outside? Boom! Hurricane force winds!” Seriously! Why can’t it be windy in the summer when it is super hot outside? That is when I want wind to cool me down! Oklahoma is the only state that gets to zero degrees in the winter and then one hundred and five in the summer. Even Canada is not that bad! Oh my gosh! Oklahoma is the Siberia of the United States!!! The weather is never normal, it is always extreme, and I do not know very many people who are like "Oh hell yes! I get to go to Oklahoma! Woohoo!" It is the Siberia of the US!

Week 7 Famous Last Words

This has been an interesting week for sure. I have to say, the snow has been absolutely amazing! This is only the second time I have even seen snow in my entire life, so my perspective is very much like that of a child’s. Although I was hoping that it would continue to snow until Tuesday. I just really hate going to my capstone class every Tuesday/Thursday. I learn nothing. Honestly, it would be more fun watching the grass grow or paint dry than attend that class. But that’s life I guess.

Back to the snow, it is awesome! I do feel bad for all of those people up in the New England area, though. One of my really close friends actually goes to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) up in Boston, and he was telling me that some of the snow is taller than him! Now I know this might not shock you very much, so let me put this into perspective. My MIT friend, David, is a genius in all manners of the word, but he is also on the MIT varsity basketball team. David is about six-foot-five-inches tall. So to say that the snow is taller than he is means that the snow is taller than six foot five inches!! I’m pretty sure he was talking about the snow that had been plowed to the side of the road, but still!!! It must be like walking through tunnels! And they don’t even get class canceled! Poor things!

The rest of the week has been pretty good. I am trying to get ahead in my classes, as well as caught up. I have been seriously lacking lately. I think that this senioritis is really starting to kick in. I just want to not have to do anything anymore, you know?

Week 6 Famous Last Words

This was a pretty good week. Shocking, I know. It seems as though all I do in these is complain, but not this week! It is very exciting that we finally have snow, other than the fact that I have lost my winter jacket.

Other than that, this week was an exceptional week. I was able to get the majority of my work done on time and had enough time left over to see my friends. I was even able to sleep in!

Classes are going fairly well. I am a bit behind in a few of my classes, which is something that I am currently attempting to correct. It is difficult at times when you can see the finish line right in front of you.

You know what I really want to do? Travel the world. If I could, when I graduate, I would just travel all the time. I probably would never even go home. Although, I would probably be broke doing so. There are way too many places I want to go. Going to every continent is on my bucket list. However, the number of places I want to go to is so much larger. So far I want to go to Italy, Germany, Poland, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Austria, Norway, Greece, Ireland, Scotland, England, Egypt, South Africa, Israel, Russia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, Peru, Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Costa Rica, and Antarctica.

Told you, too many places. I honestly could not think of a better way to live. I want to take in so much information, learn so many new things. I think I would live in the majority of the countries for at least a month so that I could learn the language and the norms of the place. I am just ready to graduate and start my life.

Week 5 Famous Last Words

Well, this week has been absolute hell. Being a senior and looking for out of state jobs while still in school is like trying to run a marathon on a path made of extra sticky glue, incredibly difficult, slow, but ultimately successful. Sometimes I just feel so incredibly split in my priorities that one or the other takes a hit. It is never on purpose, it just sort of happens.

Anyway, think week I had several interviews down in Houston, Texas, and some other very important things that needed to be taken care of. I would tell you all what happened, but I would rather keep all of that to myself. I do not mind ranting about being a senior and graduation, but some things much stay private, you know?

My other classes are going fairly well. I have to say that this online class is set up better than any other online class here at the University of Oklahoma. I am currently enrolled in one other online class and it is horrible. In this other class we have a huge paper that is due at the end of the year. The problem with this, however, is that the guidelines for it are all in differently places. Let me attempt to explain this phenomenon.

You go to do your assignment for Week A and it tells you what to do and then it say to look at Week C for more instructions on your final paper. So you go to Week C, only there are absolutely no guidelines for your paper anywhere in Week C. You then decide to go look at Week D and E, because maybe they will have some guidelines. Nope! Finally you go to the final week and there are a few, very vague, guidelines. And at the very bottom it telling you to go look at Week C for more information. I might just implode.

Week 4 Famous Last Words

This week I decided to use my new study habits, and it worked. Instead of procrastinating, I have actually been getting my work done and on time too. Getting things done before hand is awesome! I love being able to say that I am ahead in my classes. It gives me free time to do things like look for a job for after graduation.

Looking for a job for after graduation is a new kind of torture if you are not pre-med, an engineer, or have not been interning a lot. Many of the jobs you are over qualified for and the other jobs you need to have had at least 2 years of experience. Oh, and did I mention that these are “Entry Level” positions? Exactly! Then you apply for a bunch of jobs because you might as well look at several different options. Well, the majority of those do not want to hire you, about 3 will want you, and the rest will tell you to call them after you graduate, because you are not already freaking out enough about finding a job. My favorite is when you send them your resume, with your graduation date mind you, and they call you and want to set up and interview for the next day, well of course you can’t because you have class and that person on the other end of the phone has the nerve to act shocked. It’s enough to kill a person sometimes.

So there you are standing on the edge of a cliff about to graduate, and you have some person telling you, “Oh… Well, why don’t you call us back in May after you graduate and we can set up an interview.” Now you just want to jump off that cliff, which is taunting you at that point.  As you can tell, I am just a little frustrated about the whole situation. And this is why people go to the gym…

So here’s to all of those college students getting ready to graduate, standing on the edge of a cliff just trying to find a bridge to the other side. Good luck! May the odds ever be in your favor!

Week 3 Famous Last Words

This past Friday (January 30th) I had the pleasure of turning 22! I have to say, it is quite shocking having all of your friends suddenly tell you that you are old. I heard it so much that I actually dreamed about it! I was on a school bus with a bunch of kids and I guess they thought we were all the same age, and when I told them that I was 22 they all just started saying, "You're really old!!!" That was when I got up and went to a different part of the bus. Needless to say, I am feeling pretty old at the moment.

This weekend was pretty great though! I do not know what anyone else did yesterday, but I definitely watched that Super Bowl. I could not be more happy that the Patriots won! Personally, I just wanted Tom Brady to get that fourth Super Bowl win so that he could be like Joe Montana. Did you know that there are only three people in football history to have four Super Bowl wins! How crazy is that! I am way too invested in football. My family is a huge football family. Actually we are a really big sports family in general.

Well for this week I am going to get my head in the game. I will be working harder to stay on task and get all of my work done. I really need to be busy to get everything done, so that is what I have decided to do. As long as my day is really busy I will be able to get out of bed and stay on task. The hardest part is getting out of bed though. I am going to start sleeping with my laptop by my bed so I can do all my work on it first thing in the morning. It has been so cold in my apartment that it is almost impossible to function... and my bed is just so warm. However, modifications to life is the only way to get all of your work done and get those grades in, which is exactly what I plan on doing!
